AuDHD Dating: Love That Makes Room for Both Sides
For singles who are autistic and have ADHD, and the people who love dating them. Plan when you need to, wander when you want to.
- Quick to join
- 18+ only
AuDHD dating means dating as someone who is both autistic and has ADHD, and it comes with its own push and pull. One part of you may crave novelty and spontaneity while another needs routine, predictability and quiet. ADHD Singles welcomes AuDHD singles, alongside people with ADHD and the people who like dating them, so you can be both at once without explaining the contradiction.
The push and pull, in dating
Many AuDHD people describe living with two sets of needs that pull in opposite directions. The ADHD side may want to say yes to a last-minute plan; the autistic side may need to know exactly where, when and who. You may love a lively bar in theory and find the noise unbearable after twenty minutes. You may hyperfocus on a new person and then need several days alone to recover. None of that is contradictory to you. It can be very confusing to a date who has not met it before.
Say what you need, up front
The single most useful thing in AuDHD dating is being direct about what works for you, early. That might be in your profile, or in the first few messages:
- "I prefer to plan dates in advance and know how long they will be."
- "Loud places wear me out quickly, so I like cafés and walks."
- "I sometimes go quiet for a day or two to recharge. It is not you."
- "Please say what you mean; I miss hints."
Saying it plainly does two jobs. It helps the right people relax around you, and it gently filters out the ones who would never have been comfortable with it.
Dates that suit both sides
Look for plans that are planned but not rigid, and stimulating without being overwhelming. A walk with a destination, a quiet museum, a board game café at an off-peak time or a shared hobby all work well. Agree a start and finish time so the autistic side can relax, and leave a little room in the middle for the ADHD side to wander. Our ADHD first date ideas have plenty more, and most suit AuDHD daters too.
Messages, replies and recharging
Text-based conversation is often easier than calls when you are AuDHD, because you can take your time and say exactly what you mean. On ADHD Singles, messages wait until you are ready, and a slow reply is less likely to be taken as rejection on a site where so many people know the feeling. If a match is right for you, they will understand the days you need to yourself.
Special interests are a good thing here
Autistic special interests and ADHD hyperfocus can both make for deep, specific passions. On a dating profile they are gold. Tap the interest labels that fit and write a line about the thing you could talk about for hours. The right person will want to hear it. Our profile tips show how.
If autism is the bigger part of you
If you identify first as autistic, an app that grew out of the autistic community may suit you better, and that is fine. Hiki is the best known; our ADHD Singles vs Hiki page explains the difference honestly. If ADHD is the side that most needs understanding in dating, you are in the right place. AuDHD dating questions
What does AuDHD mean?
It is a widely used word for being both autistic and having ADHD.
Can AuDHD people join ADHD Singles?
Yes, and many do. The site is built around ADHD, and autistic members with ADHD are very welcome.
Is dating harder when you are AuDHD?
It can be, mostly because the two sets of needs pull in different directions. Being direct about what works for you helps a lot.
Should I say I am AuDHD on my profile?
Only if you want to. A line about what helps, such as preferring planned dates, often works better than a label.
